Dear Local 791 Members:

As we battle through this Pandemic, you continue to display great courage and resolve in making sure we provide the public with the essential goods they need to survive. As we enter week three of the outbreak, Local 791 and the UFCW International Union are fighting to provide you first responder status. This would entitle you to several programs, protections and services which would keep you safer in the workplace, and help you and your family.

Many of you have expressed concerns about working during this outbreak.   For those Members who are interested, the Company is offering you some options. These include benefit time off with pay (vacation or sick leave), unpaid leave, and applying for medical or personal leave.  If you are interested in these options, please see your Store Manager, Human Resources Manager, or your Personnel Coordinator. Then, if you have any additional questions, please contact your Business Agent or call the Union Office.  The Union office remains open and staffed to service you, so please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.*

At the Union’s insistence, the Company has agreed to provide the additional $2 per hour Appreciation Pay through this week.  In addition, Local 791 is urging Shaw’s to continue the Appreciation Pay program until at least the beginning of May, or until this Pandemic ends.  We are also petitioning the Company to provide protective equipment for our members (masks, gloves, hand sanitizer).  Unfortunately, some of this equipment is almost impossible to procure, but we will continue to work on that front.

Together we will get through this!

Sincerely and fraternally,

Russell Regan
