7 Facts On Essential Workers Hazard Pay That You Need To Know Now

read_more.gif

May 26, 2020

Dear Local 791 Member:

As we transition into Summer during this Pandemic, we are all wondering if a new season will bring some sense of normalcy back into our lives.  While some of our members are looking forward to taking their hard-earned Summer vacations, many others have had to cancel or alter their travel plans because of the Covid situation. We have all been impacted in different ways by this Pandemic: some have fallen ill, some have suffered from anxiety, and others have been worked to the point of exhaustion.

You, the Members of Local 791, have performed very admirably during the Pandemic by providing essential services to the customers, and in the process making a lot of money for the Company. You have also done so without complaint.  As a result, theUnion has continued to urge Shaw’s to continue its Appreciation Pay until this Pandemic is over. Other retailers, like Kroger, have ended their Appreciation Pay in a blatant display of Corporate Greed.  However, I am calling on Shaw’s and its parent corporation, Albertsons, not to make the same mistake. The Company officials must remember that Supermarkets, Distribution Centers, and Processing Plants are among the most dangerous places to be employed during this outbreak.

The infection rate among our members has slowed down somewhat, but this situation is far from over, and it probably won't be until a vaccine is developed and made available to all of us. Until that occurs, we have to remain vigilant, and continue to take every precaution to stay healthy.

Stay safe, stay united.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Russell Regan
President
