Dear Local 791 Members,
As we head into the month of August, we see that Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc across our country. Here in the northeast the number of cases has declined, but other parts of the country have seen a significant increase in cases and fatalities, and some medical professionals predict a second wave of the virus in the northeast. In the face of these grim realities, you - the essential workers - continue to report to work and service our customers as well as supply families with the goods they need to make it through this Pandemic.
You should be aware that legislation has been filed at the Federal and State level which is designed to help Essential workers monetarily and also make your working conditions safer. Unfortunately, this Legislation is tied up in gridlock for now, but we will keep you updated on any progress. Local 791 is awaiting a date for Arbitration for the three class action grievances we filed regarding the abrupt elimination of Appreciation/Hazard Duty Pay. We are also awaiting a response from the National Labor Relations Board addressing the charges we filed for the elimination of Appreciation/Hazard Duty pay.
In closing I would like to commend the Members of Local 791 for your extraordinary efforts over the last six months. Even though the number of cases are currently somewhat lower in the Northeast, the danger to Distribution and Retail workers remains high. We will get through this together.
Stay safe, stay United.
Sincerely and fraternally
UFCW Local 791
