January 5, 2021

Dear Local 791 Members,

Although the New Year has begun, there are still many challenges that our Members must face. We continue to see new Covid-19 cases take their toll on our Members, with a second surge that is impacting our Retail Workers particularly hard.

In spite of this, the Company continues to refuse to reinstate Appreciation/Hazard Pay for its deserving workforce. As many of you are aware, Local 791 has filed three Class Action Grievances against the Company regarding this issue, and they are scheduled to be heard by an Arbitrator on January 13th.

During the next several months we will see an all-out effort to get people vaccinated, in an attempt to get Covid-19 under control. As essential workers, our Members should be given a priority place in this process, but it not yet clear when that will happen.  The Pandemic has forced many of our sisters and brothers to cope with permanent job loss.  For example, the Hospitality and Entertainment industries have been decimated by the Pandemic, and in many cases, to the point of no return. As of this writing, a second round of stimulus checks are on the way, to help ease the financial burden many people have been forced to endure, and this will help many members who were forced to miss work because of Covid-19 related issues.

Moving forward, we are going to see many permanent changes related to our jobs, because Covid has forever changed how our society will interact. But, as always, we will adapt and keep moving forward in attempt to get back as near to normal as possible.   Stay safe, stay united.

Sincerely and fraternally

Russell Regan, President
